Nu Transgender Movement, Inc. is a nonprofit organization committed to improving the health and well-being of BIPOC transgender and nonbinary individuals in Texas and New York. Our mission is to expand access to gender-affirming care, HIV prevention and support, and affirming documentation services.
We provide direct assistance with securing identity documents that reflect a person’s gender identity and offer navigation support for long-term, culturally competent care, including linkage to HIV testing, PrEP access, peer-led support groups, and ongoing education to reduce stigma and health disparities.
Through our work, nearly 200 individuals have obtained accurate identification and critical health services, empowering them to pursue housing, employment, and medical care with dignity and confidence.
Our program, which focuses on name changes and gender corrections, explicitly serves the marginalized BIPOC transgender and nonbinary communities —unfortunately, services benefiting this underserved community risk being banned in multiple U.S. states. In response, we provide supplementary resources to support those who may lose access to existing services.

Established in 2014 by a dedicated transgender activist, our organization initially focused on conducting community vigils for Black transgender women who were victims of hate crimes and distributing safe sex work kits to low-income areas where BIPOC transgender women and nonbinary individuals predominantly reside. In 2019, we began cultural competency training for the Dallas Police Academy and City and County senior staff. In addition to training, we have assisted over 200 trans and nonbinary individuals with identity document correction services, community referrals, and peer support groups. Through advocacy efforts at the Texas capitol, we have stood on the front lines with other LGBTQ+ service organizations like Equality Texas, Trans Education Network of Texas, and Resource Center Dallas.
We seek passionate and dedicated volunteers to join us in this critical work.
