Founded in 2014 by a transgender activist to improve the quality of life for TGNC people in Texas and New York, Nu Transgender Movement, Inc. got its start by holding community vigils for Black transgender women killed due to hate crimes and by providing safe sex work kits in the low-income areas of Dallas which primarily serves BIPOC transgender women and young adults. Nearly ten years later, our organization has grown, and evolved to serve the entire Texas and New York TGNC communities and offer Name Change, Cultural Competence Training and Peer Support services. Our commitment to creating a better world for TGNC individuals remains.
(TDoR) is an annual event on November 20th worldwide. It is about remembering transgender people killed by people who do not like transgender people (transphobes). It was started in 1998 by Gwendolyn Ann Smith, a transwoman. Smith made the event because an Afro- American transwoman called Rita Hester was murdered.
