Nu Transgender Movement, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the health-related quality of life for BIPOC transgender and nonbinary individuals. Our mission is to support the procurement of identity documents that align with an individual's gender identity and to assist clients in accessing long-term gender-affirming care. Our efforts have enabled nearly 200 individuals to obtain critical gender-affirming care and feel empowered to apply for housing and employment with new, matching identity documents.
Our program, which focuses on name changes and gender corrections, explicitly serves the marginalized BIPOC transgender and nonbinary communities —unfortunately, services benefiting this underserved community risk being banned in multiple U.S. states. In response, we provide supplementary resources to support those who may lose access to existing services.

Established in 2014 by a dedicated transgender activist, our organization initially focused on conducting community vigils for Black transgender women who were victims of hate crimes and distributing safe sex work kits to low-income areas where BIPOC transgender women and nonbinary individuals predominantly reside. In 2019, we began cultural competency training for the Dallas Police Academy and City and County senior staff. In addition to training, we have assisted over 200 trans and nonbinary individuals with identity document correction services, community referrals, and peer support groups. Through advocacy efforts at the Texas capitol, we have stood on the front lines with other LGBTQ+ service organizations like Equality Texas, Trans Education Network of Texas, and Resource Center Dallas.
We seek passionate and dedicated volunteers to join us in this critical work.
